FAQs

I will have a support person or spouse with me, DO i still need a doula?

Most of my clients have a partner or spouse with them for support! The blessing of family cannot be overshadowed! A lot of women find that having a doula allows their support person to be more invested and less stressed about the process. My role is also a bit different in that I am not as emotionally invested as you and your partner, so therefore have a broader view of situations and can offer additional support when things get tough or emotional.

What can a doula do that my support person can’t?

Your support person is hands-down the most valuable resource for a doula, as they know you better than anyone. Something I can offer that goes beyond their understanding of you, is my understanding of the medical side to this process, as well as my specialized training in certain techniques to help with progression of labor and pain relief.

Is a doula still helpful if i want an epidural or have a planned cesarean?

Absolutely! Part of my job is to help you understand the process and support you in the decisions you are making. I am also here to help you think through certain decisions by providing more information and asking more questions of your care team. If you feel like you don’t have enough information, I am an advocate for you in achieving the outcome that best aligns with your desires.

what do you provide beyond just attending my birth?

The possibilities are limitless! Part of each package are prenatal and postpartum visits. Prior to your birth, we’ll meet to discuss goals, birth plan, preferences, day of planning, and go over how comfortable you are with your understanding of the process. Once baby is born, I’ll meet with you again to provide things like lactation support, nutrition, and even hold baby while you take a nap or shower!
